Nintendo Started Work On Majora's Mask 3DS Remake In 2011, Will Include Changes

by Kyle Hilliard on Nov 08, 2014 at 06:58 AM

In a post on the Miiverse, Zelda series producer (and Majora's Mask's original director) Eiji Aonuma shared some details about the upcoming remake.

You can check out the full post here where Aonuma writes, "The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D was actually in development almost immediately after we finished working on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, which was released in June of 2011."

Aonuma also detailed, in a very ambiguous way, some of the changes that will be coming to the game for its re-release. "We didn't want to say it was being developed until we were at a point where we could proudly say that this is not going to be just another remake and that it's going to be worth your time," Aonuma writes. He follows up with more saying, "We’ve spent a lot of time making sure the gameplay experience is smoother than in the original version without taking away from this unique world. I hope those that haven’t played the original game, and those of you that played it but gave up mid-way through will take this opportunity to give the new version a try."

Finally Aonuma ends with, "When it's closer to its release date, I’ll talk more about what has been changed in the Nintendo 3DS version and its new features right here in this [Miiverse] community, so stay tuned!"

Our Take
As much as I love Majora's Mask (which I do tremendously) it does suffer from issues of repetition. You are reliving three days over and over, after all. I'm definitely curious to see what will be changed or tweaked. I thought the changes made to Wind Waker HD were well-implemented and made the game better without detracting from the original experience. I hope Majora's Mask's changes will be the same way.
