[Update] Ubisoft's Upcoming Lineup Returns To Steam

by Mike Futter on Nov 07, 2014 at 05:40 AM

Update: While Ubisoft hasn't responded to us yet regarding our inquiry, we do have some good news. All three titles are now showing up on the Steam storefront once more.

Original Story:

With the upcoming releases of three major Ubisoft titles on PC over the next month, you might be looking to beef up your Steam library. Unfortunately, it looks like you may have to search elsewhere.

Assassin’s Creed Unity, Far Cry 4, the Far Cry 4 season pass, and The Crew were all available for pre-purchase on Steam until recently. PCGamesN reported earlier today that the games were no longer available in the UK.

Searching for any of these three titles returns no results now. Ubisoft titles previously listed and sold through Steam appear to be intact and unaffected. The titles are still listed with other digital retailers.

We’ve reached out to Ubisoft for comment and clarification. We’ll update should we receive a response.

Our Take
With digital rapidly becoming more of the revenue stream for major publishers, it would not be at all surprising for more of them to ape EA’s Origin. With the games still listed with other retailers, it seems that this might have more to do with the relationship between Ubisoft and Steam than Ubisoft making a play to reinforce its own uPlay service.
