[Trailer Added] Nintendo Details Amiibo Functions In Mario Kart 8, DLC Hits November 13

by Mike Futter on Nov 05, 2014 at 10:53 AM

Nintendo has dated the first Mario Kart 8 DLC, which includes Link, Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, the Master Cycle, the F-Zero Blue Falcon and more. It will arrive on November 13. The reported Amiibo support has also been confirmed.

Connecting one of the eligible Amiibo unlocks a Mii racing suit costume based on that character. Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, Donkey Kong, Link, Kirby, Captain Falcon, Samus, and Fox McCloud will all work with the game. The second bit of Mario Kart 8 DLC, based on Animal Crossing, will be out in May 2015.

Additionally, Hyrule Warriors will be getting Amiibo support. Connecting Link gives you access to the Spinner weapon from Twilight Princess. All of the other Super Smash Bros.-compatible Amiibos will work, too.

Each will give you a random material, weapon, or rupee when connected. The necessary software update will be available in November.

Additionally, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse will arrive in February 2015 with Amiibo support.
