How Do Minecraft Diamonds Compare To Real Diamonds?

by Sam Stewart on Nov 05, 2014 at 08:00 AM

In Minecraft, diamonds are one of the hardest materials to find, requiring players to dig down to the deepest parts of the world to collect them. But how realistic is this mining process compared to how it is done in the real world? Mining Examiner, a news site run by 911 Metallurgist, teamed up with graphic design company NeoMam Studios to create this handy infographic that compares the two gemstones.

The graphic reveals some interesting points, such as the fact that real diamonds are found over forty-times deeper in the earth than Minecraft's diamonds. Also, Minecraft's diamonds are blue as a result of a Boron impurity. Real world diamonds come in a variety of colors because of various other impurities and radiation exposures.
