This Week In Mobile – Itchy, Glitchy, Stitchy

by Jason Dafnis on Oct 31, 2014 at 11:15 AM

Pick your favorite from a series of simple games this week. Don't think too much about it; just enjoy the ride and your holiday weekend.

Star Wars: Galactic Defense
Developer: DeNA Corp.
Platform: iOS, Android
Price: Free (features in-app purchases)

No pretense here: it’s pretty much Kingdom Rush with a Clone Wars sheen. Choose your side and play for points to promote your allegiance to the Force. It might not be the most original Star Wars game ever, but lack of originality doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying out.

Woah Dave!
Developer: Choice Provisions
Platform: iOS
Price: $2.26

Woah Dave! scratches an arcade itch with newfangled colors and fidelity. It looks like a glitzy version of a glitched-out Atari game and it plays a lot like the original Mario Bros., but don’t let those make the bar to which you hold poor Dave. You run around, you attack aliens (and they attack you), and you collect coins. It doesn’t get much more straightforward than that.

Madow | Sheep Happens
Developer: Michael Koll
Platform: iOS, Android
Price: Free

I know you’ve always wanted to play Mario vs. Donkey Kong with cartoon sheep. You can’t hide the look on your face. With the power to lift and drop bridges that cross dangerous chasms, you need to guide your sheep to safety and never look baaaa-ck. A paced zydeco soundtrack helps steel your omnipotent vigil.

Meat Factory
Developer: Steve Cable
Platform: iOS
Price: $.99

Bring out your inner humanitarian in Meat Factory, a Game and Watch-y sidescroller in which you play as Fred, a meat packer who has a change of heart and decides to save the adorable fauna from a sausagey grave. The steaks have never been higher as you help the animals avoid meating their maker.

Run, Sackboy! Run!
Developer: PlayStation Mobile, Inc.
Platform: iOS
Price: Free (features in-app purchases)

Sackboy et al have gone the way of the endless runner with Run, Sackboy! Run! As you run from left to right through LittleBigPlanet levels as LittleBigPlanet people, you can collect power-ups and upgrades, stickers to unlock prizes, and the franchise-standard unlockable costumes. Run until your little ‘Boy or ‘Girl is in stitches.
