Ubisoft Expects Far Cry 4 To Sell 6 Million In First Year, The Crew 2 Million

by Mike Futter on Oct 30, 2014 at 07:59 AM

Speaking on the company’s second quarter FY15 earnings call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot set expectations for two of the publisher’s upcoming titles. Ubisoft has a full lineup for the coming quarter, with strong sales expected from Far Cry 4 and The Crew.

Far Cry 3 has sold 10 million units to date, with 6 million coming in the game’s first year. Ubisoft anticipates that Far Cry 4 will at least match the last title’s first year performance.

Looking to The Crew, Ubisoft anticipates that the new series will move 2 million units in its first 12 months. Far Cry 4 will be out on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC on November 18. The Crew is out on December 2 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PC.

Our Take
Ubisoft’s expectations for Far Cry 4 seem modest, but the company has been conservative following last year’s financial stumbles. November is a tough month, and Ubisoft will be releasing four new games between November 11 and December 2 and Watch Dogs on Wii U on November 18, also. Still, Far Cry 4 follows a successful gameplay experience, something that Far Cry 3 could not lean on.
