Driveclub PlayStation Plus Edition Postponed 'Until Further Notice'

by Mike Futter on Oct 30, 2014 at 06:12 AM

Driveclub has had a rocky launch that resulted in the delay of the slimmed down PlayStation Plus edition. We have been awaiting word on when that would be released, and unfortunately the news isn’t great.

“With the high volume of new players and additional server load the PS Plus Edition is anticipated to bring, we are currently not confident that we can guarantee the best online experience,” writes Sony president of world wide studios Shuhei Yoshida. “Until we can ensure that everyone can enjoy the full social connected online experience, we will be postponing the release of the PS Plus Edition until further notice.”

Additionally, the server problems that the game has faced since its October 7 launch are not fully resolved, nor will they be any time soon. “Unfortunately, the time frames required to roll out the fully connected experience will be longer than anticipated and we do not have an exact time frame for when they will be resolved,” Yoshida writes. “We will continue to update you on progress and you can find the latest info on the DRIVECLUB Facebook page.”

Our Take
Driveclub is Sony’s biggest failure of the year, especially with such a thin fall exclusive lineup. This was a game that was promised for launch in November 2013, and again committed for PlayStation Plus members in late September. This is a tough blow for a company that has been on the top of its game for a year.
