Mojang Unrolls Collectible Strategy Game Scrolls From Beta In Late November

by Mike Futter on Oct 27, 2014 at 09:23 AM

Mojang has announced that its collectible strategy game Scrolls will be exiting beta in November. The title will be officially released on PC, Mac, and iOS and Android tablets.

The title has been in open beta since June 2013, and will feature a cross-platform account system similar to Hearthstone. That means your purchases, rankings, and more will carry across any device that supports the game.

Unlike many other collectible games, Scrolls isn’t free-to-play, and is currently available for $20.95. However, when the game is released late next month, it will be discounted to $5. Any previously registered account will receive $20 of in-game currency.

The iOS version will be downloadable for free as a demo. It, too, will carry a premium price to unlock the full experience. As for the new relationship with Microsoft following the $2.5 billion buyout? Producer Henrik Petterson tells Touch Arcade that it's "business as usual" and that Microsoft is enthusiastic about the title.

Our Take
Mojang is striking at the right time. The fall rush will be largely over and there is great interest in digital collectible games right now. I don’t expect Scrolls will have the broad appeal that Minecraft does, but really, few things do.
