Classic Game Characters Grace Irish Post With New Stamps
This morning, Irish postal service An Post unveiled a new line of licensed stamps featuring classic game characters. The four stamps take letters, packages, and parcels back to gaming’s early days, featuring Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario, Pac Man, and Space Invaders.
According to An Post, the themed stamps are meant to reflect the “iconic status of the games and the transition of gaming from novelty to global industry.” It’s not the first time games have graced letters and parcels; France’s La Poste did it almost a decade ago and the United States’ own Postal Service appears to have plans for some up their sleeves.
Irish gamers will be licking and sticking their favorite pastime this week, but the stamps aren't considered legal postage in the United States.
