This Weekend’s Final Fantasy Festival Will Be Televised

by Mike Futter on Oct 15, 2014 at 03:22 AM

Square Enix is holding a Final Fantasy Fan Festival this weekend in Las Vegas. Today, the publisher has announced that the event, which runs October 18 and 19, will be available via livestream for those unable to attend.

The event is heavily focused on Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and will include panels on music, lore, and the future of the game. If you’re a Final Fantasy XIV player and can’t be in Las Vegas, you’ve got two choices for watching via stream.

The free version includes everything on the schedule except the opening keynote and closing ceremonies. You can also pay $20 for an HD stream that includes the keynote from producer and director Naoki Yoshida and closing ceremony.

Also included in the premium package are a Moogle Attire bonus item for the game and Twitch subscriber emotes. You’ll also be able to watch the footage via archive until March 31, 2015.

Our Take
Unfortunately, the programming schedule for this three-day event is woefully thin. There are mentions of a music panel and lore panel, but no lists of speakers or topics. If I had planned to travel for this as a player, I’d be nervous about the lack of information about content. The free stream seems like the safest bet, unless a $20 moogle costume is worth it to you.
