Watch Team Meat's Tommy Refenes Wander Open Video Game Worlds For His Mom

by Kyle Hilliard on Oct 08, 2014 at 03:29 PM

Super Meat Boy creator Team Meat's Tommy Refenes is walking across some of video games' largest open world maps to raise funds for his mother's health.

Refenes' mother is a type-1 diabetic, and has been for 32 years. He is helping his siblings raise money in order to assist his mother in managing her diabetes by purchasing her a diabetic alert dog. The diabetic alert dog will help her monitor her blood sugar levels, something she can no longer do by normal means due to Neuropathy, which Refenes describes as a general deadening of the nerves.

To do this, Refenes will be leisurely walking the open world maps of the games Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto V starting tomorrow night. He's calling it the "Why the f*** is he just walking across the map?" fundraiser. As a bonus, anyone who watches and donates will be entered into a raffle to win something from a pool of rare Super Meat Boy merchandise.

You can learn more about it, including answers to a collection questions about why Refenes is doing this, by heading here. You can donate by heading here. And finally, you can find Tommy's Twitch channel by heading here.

Refenes is hopeful the fundraiser will be a success, and plans to do the same for charities in the future. He's hopeful it can become something akin to the Desert Bus charity raising efforts.

Here's a picture of Tommy I took at PAX '14 pretending to be a robot... I think?
