Super Smash Bros. Rockets To 2.8 Million Copies Sold

by Mike Futter on Oct 07, 2014 at 02:06 AM

In addition to a release date for the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros., Nintendo dropped another important piece of news about the series. The 3DS version continues to put up big numbers around the world.

Over 2.8 million copies of the handheld fighter have been sold. You might recall that it passed the 1 million mark just a week into the Japanese release. The title arrived in Japan on September 13 and arrived everywhere else just a few days ago (October 3 in most territories, October 4 in Australia).

Our Take
As a comparison (and something to keep in mind as the Wii U version hits shelves in about six weeks), Mario Kart 8 sold 2.82 million in its first month. That represented a 42 percent attach rate against 6.68 million Wii U consoles.

Based on most recently reported numbers, Super Smash Bros. 3DS currently has an attach rate of 6.8 percent against 41.4 million 3DS units in circulation worldwide.  That’s a strong start for a game that just arrived in most of the world less than a week ago.
