Gone Home House Becomes A Multiplayer Map In Counter-Strike Mod

by Kyle Hilliard on Sep 17, 2014 at 02:54 PM

A Counter-Strike modder going by the name Nipper on Steam Workshop has recreated the Gone Home's familiar house for use with Valve's shooter.

You can find the map here, and it looks to be (without actually playing the mod) complete. Above you can see the TV room where you learned of the family's obsession with The X-Files, and other screens showcase the familiar bedrooms, the front porch where the game begins, and the clearly underused dining room.

The map can be played with up to 32 players, but Nipper recommends significantly fewer.

Our Take
I absolutely love that this exists. I remember after playing Gone Home, I remarked to Jeff Cork that I would love to see the house appear as a map in a shooter. I wanted it to exist mostly because it would be hilariously ironic since Gone Home is nearly the polar opposite of a shooter, but I also wanted to see it because over the course of the game, you learn the layout of the home so well. I also love the idea of players calling out things like, "They're in the room where you learned about your father's failed attempts to become a respected novelist!" or "I'm stuck in the room where you stopped halfway through reading the note of your sister's first sexual experiences!" That would make for an interesting game of Counter-Strike.
