Harmonix Is Creating A WinAmp-Like Visualizer For Gear VR

by Mike Futter on Sep 05, 2014 at 08:49 AM

The concept of seeing your music isn’t anything new. Music players like WinAmp were a mainstay in the 1990s, creating visual depictions of the music they played. Harmonix wants to do that, but in virtual reality.

The company announced earlier in the week that it’s working on a project for the newly-announced Samsung Gear VR. Today, we’ve got some additional details.

Harmonix Music VR will ship this year for the new device, which uses a Samsung Note 4 for processing and display. The company says that the application uses the “Music Analysis Engine” to create the visuals that play alongside the music.

For those planning on getting one of the units coming out this October, you’ll have Harmonix Music VR available to play around with. For more on the Samsung Gear VR, check out our earlier coverage.
