Report: The Sims 4 Has A Hilarious Anti-Piracy Measure

Those unscrupulous souls who are playing pirated copies of The Sims 4 may find it difficult to get very far into the experience…or at least appreciate their surroundings.

PC Gamer reports that what began as a supposed bug is actually a form of copy protection. Playing an illegitimate version of The Sims 4 causes the mosaic that blocks nudity to expand after it initially appears, covering the entire screen and making most of the action indecipherable. It recently came to light that users who were experiencing the problem were playing pirated copies; the connection couldn't be ignored.

We've reached out to EA for comment and will update this story if we get a response.

Our Take
I love it when developers stick it to pirates with innovative and aggravating ways of making illegitimate copies of their games unplayable. I'd love to see this in every game; it's more entertaining than traditional always-online draconian DRM.
