Minecraft Arrives On PlayStation 4 Today, Vita Later

by Mike Futter on Sep 04, 2014 at 02:51 AM

By the end of the week, Minecraft will be available to anyone with a new-gen console. Sony and Mojang have announced that the sandbox crafting game arrives today, Thursday, September 4, on PlayStation 4.

For those that already own a retail or digital copy of the PlayStation 3 version, you’ll be able to upgrade for just $4.99. For those with a disc, you’ll just need a saved game and to be logged into the same PSN account as you used on the PS3 version. For others, the price is $19.99.

The Vita version of the game is still in the works, though there are no details at this time. “Mojang and 4J are working hard on it,” says Sony Computer Entertainment America’s Brian Silva. “We hope to update you soon.” The Xbox One version will be released tomorrow, Friday, September 5.

Our Take
Though NPD won’t reflect it, because Minecraft on PS4 and Xbox One is digital, this will most certainly help lift software sales for September. Minecraft retail versions continue to pop up on the monthly top 10 list here in the United States, over a year since its release on disc.
