Weekend Warrior 08/08/2014

This weekend more than a few of the editors here at Game Informer are heading back to post-apocalyptic America to experience the excellent The Last of Us Remastered Edition. For the rest of us, this weekend will be about digging into backlogs, playing sports games, continuing heated pinball-related rivalries, and gearing up for Gamescom. Have a good weekend!

Daniel Tack: I’ll be at Gamescom playing all the things.

Matt Bertz: With the NFL preseason kicking off, I'll be kicking the tires on Madden NFL 25. When I'm not marching the Teddy Bridgewater-led Vikings to victory, I plan to spend more time in the Rapture with Elizabeth and Booker DeWitt in the BioShock Burial At Sea expansions.

Kim Wallace: I’m just coming off finishing a few review games, so this week will about relaxing and finding something new to enjoy. I’m working at getting better at FIFA 14 with 15 on the horizon, but I also want a dive into a big adventure. Part of me is thinking now is the time to give The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings another spin. I’m super excited for Wild Hunt and want to refresh myself before it launches in February. I also need to rectify the fact that I haven’t played The Last of Us: Left Behind. I’ve heard such good things about it, and now that I have it via the remastered edition, it’s time to finally get more insight into Ellie.

Jeff M: My renewed obsession with Hearthstone continued all week. I’ve been bouncing between three sketchy priest, paladin, and druid decks while doing dailies for gold, and I’m not satisfied with any of them. I have saved up enough to unlock the second Naxxramas wing, however, so I’m planning to tackle that this weekend. Hopefully I can tweak those decks into something viable too. Beyond that, I still need to post some high scores on Zen Pinball 2 just to keep Jeff Cork in check.

Ben Hanson: This weekend I'm going to see Groundhog Day in the theaters for the first time. Just to be clear, I've seen it dozens of times just never on film on the big screen. Other than that, I'm going to continue playing Last of Us on PS4. I'm going to finish it this time, I swear. And then I'm also hoping to get some friends together to play Crawl on Steam. It's in early-access but has one player control the enemies in a dungeon crawler and is supposed to be a great addition to the fantastic roster of local multiplayer games to come out recently like Towerfall and Samurai Gunn. Enjoy your weekend!

Harry Mackin: Summer’s almost over, and lately I haven’t been putting much time into my big summer game list. This weekend, I’m hoping I can pick up steam on that again, so I’ll be trying to spend some time with Persona 4 (as always), getting further through Far Cry 3, and maybe even trying to get into my Mass Effect 1 playthrough (mini-quests are killing my motivation). I’ve been reading a lot of Batman comic books lately, however, and that’s made me really want to replay Arkham City, so that’s more than likely what will end up happening.

Dimitri Gedevanishvili: This weekend I plan on getting deeper into The Last of Us Remastered. I’ve played a couple hours of campaign so far and it’s just as great as I remember. I also played some of the excellent multiplayer, but my internet was being rather slow when I last played, so hopefully that won’t be an issue this weekend.

Wayne Stainrook: This weekend I’ll be dipping my toe into some board games that aren’t Sorry! for the very first time (lol n00b) and talking myself out of buying awesome toys like this Terry Bogard ala King of Fighters and this Squirtle that I absolutely must have.
