[Update] Diablo III To Run At 1080p On Xbox One And PlayStation 4

by Dimitri Gedevanishvili on Aug 07, 2014 at 09:25 AM

Update: Blizzard says that Diablo III will now run at 1080p/60 frames per second for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Blizzard associate producer Tiffany Wat shared the good news with GameSpot. "The game will be available [in] 1080p on both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. Native 1080p resolution. You will need to download the day-one patch for the Xbox One to get that support, but it will be there. We're very happy about that."

Earlier this week, Blizzard announced that Diablo III has sold over 20 million copies, and that old game saves will transfer across generations – in some cases even between Microsoft and Sony's platforms. Diablo III Ultimate Evil Edition is set to launch on August 19.

Original Story: The senior producer on the console versions of Diablo III has stated that the game will run at 900p on Xbox One. As previously confirmed, the PlayStation 4 version will run at 1080p. Both versions are reported to run at 60 frames per second, however.

Senior producer Julia Humphreys told Joystiq about the framerate on the Xbox One. Furthermore, the PS4 version of Diablo III will feature enemies from The Last of Us as well as a Shadow of the Colossus-inspired armor set.

Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition is set to release on August 19 on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC. Be sure to read our reviews on the PC and console versions of the game.

Our Take
I played a great deal of Diablo III for PC when it first came out and I had a great time with it. Being able to play it on new-gen hardware at 1080p on my PS4 sounds pretty enticing. I may have to give it a look. It is definitely odd and unfortunate that Xbox One users are getting the short end of the stick here, though.
