The Art Of Donkey Kong Country Returns Video Swings Into Our Hearts

by Wayne Stainrook on Aug 06, 2014 at 10:21 AM

Over the years, Donkey Kong has transformed his image from villain to hero, adopting a modest monogrammed tie for a more professional look (well, they're technically not the same gorilla, but we won't get into that). He first starred in his own adventure with the graphically impressive Super Nintendo hit Donkey Kong Country, a title some argue hasn't aged particularly well, and has recently found his way back into the hearts of long-time Nintendo fans in the Donkey Kong Country Returns games.

With the latest video in his "The Art of" series, Olivier Leclair shows us how the Nintendo mascot made his triumphant return with a new 2.5D look in the 2010 Wii game, moving from concept to in-game motion. As you might expect, the video contains tropical vistas, volcanic activity, and lots of bananas.
