The lights are on
As it turns out, everyone's favorite green dinosaur has a full scientific name, but it's no wonder nobody has ever called him by it.
According to a 1993 Nintendo Character Guide, Yoshi's full name is "T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopas". This news was found by Console Wars author Blake Harris.
Wait, Yoshi's real name is T. Yoshisaur Munchakoopas??!! pic.twitter.com/ObgEnoiLAG — blake j. harris (@blakejharrisNYC) August 5, 2014

This Tweet also comes with the news of Mario's scientific name, "Homo nintendonus." This confirms why Mario, despite resembling us Homo sapiens, has a few distinguishing characteristics, including but not limited to his incredible ability to jump and climb.
No word yet on whether or not Nintendo still considers these scientific names to be canon. To those who may have forgotten, Yoshi happens to have a fuzzy new game in the works.

Yoshi has always, and will forever be, my favorite Mario character.
That stare........................
I want a feature on the scientific names of important video game characters. Their superhuman abilities can be explained by science of course. Such as Kratos is iratus godmurderus.
Huh. I didn't know that. Neat. I'm curious too as to if Nintendo still considers those names canon.
I'm sure we can happily retconn that thing...
Gotta love that bowling ball schnoz...
Uhhhh...k?
...THE F***!?
