Revisit Rapture When BioShock Comes To iOS This Summer

by Mike Futter on Aug 04, 2014 at 02:00 AM

2K Games has found success in bringing console-quality titles to mobile devices. XCOM: Enemy Unknown was a triumph, and the team at Firaxis has also created unique strategy experiences for iOS and Android. Now, one of 2K’s best of last-gen will be able to come with you wherever you go.

Irrational Games’ BioShock is getting an iOS makeover, complete with controller support. The title is coming to compatible iPad and iPhone devices.

You’ll need a fairly new Apple product in order to play. Unless you have an iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad Mini 2, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5, Rapture will be out of reach.

BioShock will carry a premium price (not free-to-play), though no specific pricing or release timing has been announced. See below for the first screenshots.

Our Take
Since controller support isn’t terribly prevalent on iOS devices yet, I don’t suspect many players will be able to experience this version of BioShock in the best way. I’d love to see Apple put more emphasis on gaming and controllers (and there are some good options out there already, including one from MOGA and another coming from Razer).

I’ve never played an action game with good touch controls, and I don’t expect BioShock to be the one to break that mold. If you have a controller and a compatible device though, having one of last-gen’s best games with me at all times sounds fantastic.
