Weekend Warrior 8/1/2014

by Wayne Stainrook on Aug 01, 2014 at 02:00 PM

Well, folks, it's August 1, which means we're slowly nearing prime time video game season. We at the office are playing an eclectic mix of games in the meantime, and it seems some of us are also enjoying the great outdoors while the pleasant Minnesota weather lasts.

Are you building a pillow fort and cuddling up next to your Xbox One, or are you spending a romantic evening with your 3DS under the stars? Let us know in the comments!

Jeff Cork: I think I've finally managed to pester Fava into spending some time with Zen Pinball 2 on PS4 this weekend. I've already beaten all of Andy and Kato's scores, and it'll be nice to get a real challenge again. I've been meaning to play through all of the God of War games again, too. Maybe I'll do that while I wait for the inevitable flurry of taunting texts from Fava.

Jeff Marchiafava: I got sucked back into Hearthstone last night, and fully expect my reignited passion to carry over into the weekend. I made my way through the first wing of Naxxramas yesterday, and have just enough gold saved up to unlock the second wing. I also want to put more time into Zen Pinball 2, as Jeff Cork has been goading me into competing with him – not that it takes much to get me to play more pinball.

Dimitri Gedevanishvili: Immediately after work today, I’m heading up to Duluth all weekend for camping. I’m going to bring my Vita with me but I doubt I’ll get much time to play it. I’m hoping when I get back on Sunday I’ll have a few hours to squeeze in some of The Last of Us Remastered, though.

Tim Turi: I’m nearly at the end of Cave Story so I’m excited to finish up that awesome little adventure. I’m also having a great time with my new Worgen hunter in World of Warcraft, and continuing my gory exploits in Monolith’s Blood. That game has references to A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, The Shining, and The Evil Dead. It’s an FPS after my own heart. This weekend should be a great one.

Harry Mackin: I narrowly missed the Guardians of the Galaxy midnight release, so that’s a top priority this weekend. Other than that, I’m going to try to make progress in Persona 4, Far Cry 3, Mass Effect, Shovel Knight, and X-Com: Enemy Within. I may be trying to play too many games at once. I’m also finally reading Dark Knight Returns, which is awesome, so I’m going to finish that, then start on Long Halloween (It was just Batman day, after all).

Daniel Tack: Firefall.

Joe Juba: I'm on a new-old-school kick, going between Shovel Knight on my 3DS and Rogue Legacy on my Vita. There are certainly more cutting-edge things I feel like I should be playing, but the classic side-scrolling vibe of both of these games is just irresistible to me right now.

Ben Hanson: This weekend I'm going to be enjoying my lake lot with a bunch of family so I don't know how much time for games there will be. I'll probably play the awesome tabletop game Avalon. Then there will be bean bags and fun stuff like that, oh and ping pong.

Wayne Stainrook: A little birdie told me a local bar will be hosting '90s night Saturday, so I plan on rocking my body right and spicing up my life with a genie in a bottle at that particular location. Other than that, I'll continue Clash of Kings while obsessing over which video games I should be playing.
