Over 4.6 Million Participated In The Destiny Beta

by Mike Futter on Jul 30, 2014 at 03:22 AM

Activision has announced some stats to cap off last week’s Destiny beta test. According to Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, the week of testing was the largest console beta for a new IP to date.

The beta began on July 17 with the PlayStation kickoff, through the July 23 addition of Xbox players, finally culminating on the evening of July 23. During that time, 4,638,937 players sampled the game and helped Bungie prepare for the September launch.

“We surpassed even our own goals and the feedback was invaluable,” says Bungie chief operating officer Pete Parsons. “We cannot thank the community enough, the response was humbling and in the weeks ahead we’ll be working hard to ensure that Destiny lives up to the expectations at launch.”

For more on Destiny, check our recap of the beta with things we loved (and elements we’d like to see improved). Destiny will be out for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3 on September 9.

Our Take
Given the chatter on social media (and our own comment sections), the response to last week’s test was overwhelmingly positive. I’m even more excited to dive back in on September 9 now that I’ve had hours to spend with the game.
