Hope You're Wearing Your Brown Pants: Deadpool Movie Test Footage Officially Released

by Harry Mackin on Jul 30, 2014 at 09:18 AM

A couple days ago, CGI-test footage for a Deadpool movie was leaked on the internet, featuring Ryan Reynolds reprising the role (if you count his first try…urgh). Much excitement ensued, until Fox took the video down. In response to the buzz generated by the leak, however, Blur Studios, the animation studio behind the clip, has officially released it.

A Deadpool movie has been a favorite internet rumor for a long time, with Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld alluding to 8 minutes of test footage, which this clip is confirmed to be a part of, back in 2012. Liefeld and Reynolds (who is still Liefeld’s first choice for the character, X-Men Origins not-withstanding) remain enthusiastic about the possibility of the movie, but reportedly have had problems getting Fox to greenlight it.

We don’t know whether the reaction to this test footage will help convince movie execs that The Merc with a Mouth is right for the big screen, but we can dream. You can watch the embedded clip below, but watch out for gratuitous violence, swearing, and Gwen Stefani.

Deadpool may not have his movie yet, but the meta, medium-aware mercenary is no stranger to video games, having appeared in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 (wherein he beats down opponents with his own lifebar), and even his own game, where he points out flaws in the level design and makes fun of Wolverine. He’s kind of the best, is what we’re trying to say.
