Destiny 'Flash Mob' Begins Today With Story Mission On The Moon

by Andrew Reiner on Jul 26, 2014 at 09:45 AM

At 2 p.m. PDT, all Destiny beta players are invited to take on a special assignment that Bungie's DeeJ calls "the most important moment" of the trial period. The assignment comes in the form of a new story mission that will only be open for two hours. "This is a flash mob," DeeJ writes. "For this one, you’ll be glad you scrounged that jump drive from the wastes of the Cosmodrome. You don’t need us to tell you where you’re headed. We’ve marked it on the map since the moment when the Beta Build became a secret whispered about by only our friends and family."

How many players can Destiny handle at once? We'll find out today when Guardians by the truckload descend upon this new location. If you are a part of this event, you'll unlock the nameplate pictured below for use in the final game. DeeJ says this plate is only for people who witnessed the "the record for concurrent players before the launch of the game."

Our Take
Here's your chance to see a game chug and likely crash over the number of players in the world. These stress tests are usually quite fun. I like that Bungie is giving players a reward for helping out.
