Iron Banner Returns To The Destiny Beta This Weekend

by Mike Futter on Jul 25, 2014 at 06:04 AM

The Iron Banner, the Destiny beta’s most grueling multiplayer challenge, will return this weekend. You’ll need to bring your best gear, because this playing field is far from level.

The Crucible multiplayer, which is available at all times, doesn’t take into account the power ratings on weapons and armor. The Iron Banner pits players against one another, and those who have been acquiring the best gear will have an edge.

The event will run in three blocks on Friday, July 25 (today) and Saturday, July 26. You can jump in from 10 a.m until 12 p.m., 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. (all times Pacific) on both days.

Battle takes place across four maps, with one each on Earth, the Moon, Venus, and Mars. To get started, speak with Lord Saladin at the Tower (he’s near the landing zone). You’ll earn reputation and rank for competing, but rewards can only be unlocked during the event windows. There are also special bounties available just for Iron Banner.

On Saturday, there will also be a chance to earn a permanent reward that will carry through to the full version this fall. Sign in at 2 p.m. Pacific to help load test the game, and you can earn an limited edition in-game emblem.

The Destiny beta runs until Sunday, June 27. At that point, it goes back into final development until the September 9 release. The title will be out on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3.

Our Take
The Destiny beta has been smooth, offering players a good understanding of what to expect when the game arrives this fall. I already see major improvements following the alpha earlier this year. And, if you didn’t get a code for the beta, you can still play. Bungie opened the doors wide yesterday.
