Microsoft Shipped 1.1 Million Xbox Consoles In Q4 FY 2014
Microsoft announced its fourth quarter fiscal year 2014 earnings yesterday, revealing some new details about the performance of its Xbox business. The segment’s revenue is up 14 percent, and sold 10 percent more units than this quarter last year.
The company reports that it shipped 1.1 million Xbox consoles, combining Xbox 360 and Xbox One sales. During fourth quarter 2013, the company shipped 1 million Xbox 360 units.
Notably, Microsoft broke out its Xbox One and Xbox 360 sales when it last reported. From January through March 2014, the company shipped 1.2 million Xbox Ones and an additional 800,000 Xbox 360s.
Microsoft last reported total units shipped to retail in April, when it announced it had put five million consoles on shelves. The company did not report how many of those were sold to customers. In comparison, Sony last reported its figures at the same time with 7 million units sold.
Most recently, Microsoft announced that sales of the Xbox One doubled in June after unbundling the Kinect. A standalone Kinect has been announced for release this fall, but no specific timing or pricing has been revealed.

Our Take
The numbers around Xbox One sales are becoming blurrier as time goes on. I’m not entirely surprised the numbers weren’t broken out though, as Microsoft has been quiet on sales throughout the quarter. At most though, this means that 6.1 million Xbox Ones have been shipped, which still doesn’t match Sony’s April sell-through number.
