Free EA Sports UFC Update Includes Three New Fighters

by Matt Bertz on Jul 22, 2014 at 01:45 PM

Its first licensed UFC game won't be the last for EA, and that's why the sports publisher is continuing to hone its craft. Today the company release a free update that adds three fighters to the roster and introduces some new gameplay additions.

The new faces entering the cage are bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw, Takeya Mizugaki, and Tyron Woodley. Other enhancements include "the addition of sprawls when defending power takedowns, updated fight finish that allow players to land extra shots as a fighter gets knocked out, and new touch glove animations at the start of the round."

Our Take
It's smart for EA to offer new fighters for free instead of nickel and diming fans with consummables. The reality is EA still has an uphill climb before getting UFC in a position to be successful given the relatively small install bases for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Keeping fans in their good graces is the best bet for trying to solidify the franchise as more users migrate to new-gen consoles.
