The International Dota 2 Championships Will Be Televised On ESPN

Valve has announced some big news for Dota 2 and the entire eSports community. The International Dota 2 championships will be televised on ESPN3, with a finals preview show appearing on ESPN2. The matches will also be available online via the WatchESPN App.

The championships will take place in Seattle, Washington at the Key Arena. Festivities begin tomorrow, July 18 and will continue through Monday, July 22, with over $10 million in prizes on the line. All of the matches, interviews, and commentary will be televised on ESPN3. 

On Sunday, ESPN2 will have an interview with Gabe Newell and a preview of the finals. You can tune in at 8:30 p.m. Pacific / 11:30 p.m. Eastern for that event.

Our Take
This is big news for eSports, which is starting to get recognition from mainstream broadcasters. Provided the commentary is up to snuff and the ratings are good, this could be a huge launchpad for the genre.
