[Update] Tekken 7 Confirmed With Trailer, Uses Unreal Engine 4

Update: Bandai Namco has made the Tekken 7 announcement official.

You can check out the trailer below, which promises more details about the game at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25.

Original story:

A new entry is coming to the Tekken franchise, and it is being built using Unreal Engine 4.

In a strange turn, the announcement, uncovered by Gematsu, comes from IGN via AOL. It appears as though AOL got its hands on an announcement video from IGN early.

No release date, specific platform announcement, or gameplay can be seen in the video, but a quote from director Katsuhiro Harada says it will be coming to next-gen consoles and with the help of Unreal Engine 4, it can be easily ported to other platforms.

You can find the video with the announcement by heading here.

Our Take
A new Tekken isn't too surprising, but the use of Unreal Engine 4 is. Most games using the Unreal engine fall in the shooter genre. NetherRealm's Injustice, Mortal Kombat 9, and Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, were built with Unreal 3, and Mortal Kombat X is being built with Unreal 4 (update: a heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3), but there aren't many other examples of Unreal fighting games. I'm curious to see how the game looks in action.
