[Update] Destiny Beta Begins Late July On Xbox 360 And Xbox One

by Mike Futter on Jun 26, 2014 at 07:41 AM

Update: Bungie has confirmed that the the Destiny beta on Xbox platforms will begin "soon after" the July 17 start on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. An Xbox Live Gold membership will be required to participate.

Additionally, you will still need to pre-order for a voucher or obtain one via a giveaway in order to join the beta. For more information, visit the official beta page.

Original Story:

After the successful alpha test earlier this month, Bungie is getting ready to send Destiny into beta. Players will be able to get another taste of the massive online shooter in July on all platforms.

PlayStation 4 owners will have first crack at the beta, beginning on July 17 (as revealed–and since deleted–by the EU PlayStation Blog). New information has surfaced that Xbox 360 and Xbox One gamers won’t be too far behind.

A trailer that was temporarily on the Xbox One dashboard points to a “late July” arrival for the testing on Microsoft consoles. We’ve reached out to Activision for confirmation and clarification and will update should we hear back.

Destiny will be out on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3 on September 9. If you missed the alpha, you can check out our moon wizard-filled Test Chamber.

Our Take
If you haven’t received a Destiny beta voucher yet, they are still available when you pre-order. I also suspect there will be giveaways from Bungie and other sources. I really enjoyed the alpha and I’m looking forward to playing more in July and then when the game is finally out in September.
