July’s Games With Gold Showcase Digital-Only Offerings

by Mike Futter on Jun 26, 2014 at 08:26 AM

Microsoft has announced the July 2014 Games with Gold offerings for Xbox One and Xbox 360. The three new titles are all digital exclusives, joining Max and the Curse of Brotherhood (which will remain available in July).

Replacing Halo: Spartan Assault is Drinkbox’s Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition. The update adds new bosses, areas, challenges, and the DLC previously available for the original release. It becomes available July 1, but here’s our review of the original version.

Also at the start of the month, Xbox 360 owners can grab Gotham City Impostors. The humorous take on the Dark Knight puts players in the role of ordinary civilians impersonating Batman and Joker.

On July 16, Battleblock Theatre rotates in on the Xbox 360. The Behemoth’s humorous platformer has players solving puzzles for an audience of voyeuristic cats. You can read up on that in our review.

Our Take
Looking only at the positive side of things, all three of the new games reviewed well (counting Guacamelee’s initial release). I find it surprising that there isn’t a retail release in the bunch, but it’s hard to complain about games you’re getting at no extra charge, right?
