Rise Of The Tomb Raider Unveiled [Trailer Added]

by Matt Miller on Jun 09, 2014 at 07:46 AM

The new trailer for Rise of the Tomb Raider opens on a therapy session between an unnamed doctor and his patient, a hooded woman who is soon revealed as Lara Croft. The young woman seems to be struggling with the aftermath of her trials in the first game, but its clear those trials aren’t over, as the trailer cuts between her therapy sessions and a desperate new survival adventure.

In the action sequences, we see her sliding down a mountain and catching hold with her climbing axe, as well as skulking through the shadows to kill an enemy human with her bow. As the trailer closes, the camera pans out to show Lara standing in a massive underground cavern, and an ancient tomb looming in the distance.

It’s clear from the trailer that Crystal Dynamics is hoping to bring the Lara Croft story closer to the “tomb raider” moniker than the first game in the series – a criticism that some fans leveled against the first installment of the reboot. At the same time, it’s great to see that the developer isn’t abandoning the more human and emotional elements that helped the last game stand out.
