Report: Sony Moving Forward With Metal Gear Movie, In Talks With A Director

A report has surfaced pointing toward Sony taking a drastic step towards the release of a Metal Gear Solid film.

Deadline reports that Sony is in talks with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts to direct a film based on Hideo Kojima and Konami's Metal Gear Solid franchise. Vogt-Roberts directed The Kings of Summer and a film version of Nick Offerman's (Parks & Recreation) one-man show, Nick Offerman: American Ham. The project is apparently being produced by Avi Arad, who has served as producer on nearly every Marvel film, and is executive producer on the video game television show, Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures.

A Metal Gear Solid movie has been rumored for some time. According to Deadline, the long-term delay of the project is related to the fact that, "it just took so long for the game creators and the studio to find themselves on the same page in how to tell the story of protagonist Solid Snake."

We recently spoke with Metal Gear creator about some of his favorite films. You can read about his picks here.

Our Take
I'll file this one under, "I'll believe it once I've watched the film and am walking out of the theater complaining it wasn't as good as the video games," but I do like the idea of seeing a Metal Gear movie. I also have just recently fallen in love with the idea of Nick Offerman playing Solid Snake, a casting call that isn't completely absurd considering Jordan Vogt-Roberts' relationship with the actor.
