New Game Releases This Week – May 18 Through May 24

by Andrew Reiner on May 19, 2014 at 08:38 AM

The Nazis win World War II and a girl converses with a giant sword in this week's new releases.

On Tuedsay, Bethesda Softworks and Machine Games are releasing Wolfenstein: The New Order, a game that rewrites history to show a world ruled by the Nazi regime and its dictator General Deathshead. Series veteran B.J. Blazkowicz is once again called upon to save the day, and in this case, get history back on track. On this same day, Supergiant Games (of Bastion fame) is releasing Transistor. This action/RPG has a completely customizable combat power system, a rich sci-fi world to discover, and a fascinating combat system that combines action with a strategic planning mode. Access Games and Square Enix are joining in on the Tuesday release fun with the action/RPG Drakengard 3. From what I hear, you can ride dragons in this game.

Friday welcomes the fifth installment in Kalypso Media's Tropico series. Reviews for these four games will be hitting GI later this week, starting with Matt Bertz's review of Wolfenstein: The New Order tonight at 11 p.m. CDT. Here's the full list of games hitting this week:

Ascend: Hand of Kul (PC) - May 20
Drakengard 3 (PS3) - May 20
Mugen Souls Z (PS3) - May 20
R-Type Dimensions (PS3) - May 20

Our Take
This is one of those weeks where I don't know where to start. I've been looking forward to Wolfenstein: The New Order and Transistor since the day they were announced. I also wouldn't mind another starting another RPG. Here's hoping Drakengard and the other heavy hitters releasing this week are worth playing.
