[Update] Respawn Removes Two Modes From Titanfall PC Playlists

by Mike Futter on May 16, 2014 at 03:01 PM

Update: Respawn has shared a blog post explaining the removal of capture the flag and pilot hunter as dedicated, public options. It seems that the majority of PC players gravitate toward attrition and hardpoint modes.

"CTF and Pilot Hunter have not been widely used modes on the PC version," the blog post reads. "Players trying to access these modes had overlong wait times to find other users and it was making for a poor experience."

Respawn says it will continue to monitor playlist usage and remove unpopular modes in favor of new playlists. The team is currently working on new modes and remixes of existing ones. Pilot hunter and CTF will also be rotated into future playlists. For the complete statement, visit the Titanfall blog.

Original Story:

If you’re playing Titanfall on PC, you might have noticed that two modes have been removed as options for public matches. Don’t worry, the most popular mode (Attrition) is safe.

Capture the Flag and Pilot Hunter are now playable only in private matches and “variety.” As of now, there are no changes to Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions.

We’ve reached out to Respawn to get some background information on this decision. We’ll update should we hear back.

Our Take
This seems like a strange choice, especially given Azure’s ability to scale. Based on what we have been told about server scaling, those two modes shouldn’t be taking up room if they are underutilized. I’m curious to find out more.
