Batman: Arkham Assault Movie Releasing On Blu-Ray, DVD This Summer

by Andrew Reiner on May 16, 2014 at 05:27 AM

Warner Bros. Animation's next film, Batman: Assault on Arkham, is locked in for an August 12 release on Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital. This film is a direct sequel to the Batman: Arkham Origins video game, picking up with the post-credit scroll tease of the formation of the Suicide Squad, a government-controlled super villain team that does dirty work off of the books.

Their first mission is to infiltrate Arkham Asylum to secure classified documents that have fallen into The Riddler's hands. This assignment quickly derails when Squad member Harley Quinn frees The Joker. The chaos draws the attention of Batman, who might as well turn Arkham Asylum into a second home, given how much time he spends there.

This film features the voice work of Kevin Conroy (Batman), Troy Baker (Joker), Neal McDonough (Deadshot), Matthew Gray Gubler (Riddler), Greg Ellis (Captain Boomerang), Giancarlo Esposito (Black Spider), and CCH Pounder (Amanda Waller). It's directed by Jay Oliva (Justice League: War) and Ethan Spaulding (Son of Batman), and is penned by Heath Corson (Justice League: War).

The blu-ray version includes an exclusive bonus: Arkham Analyzed: The Secrets Behind the Asylum – a documentary that outlines the asylum's history. The DVD and Blu-Ray also offer The Joker's Queen: Harley Quinn – a featurette that dives into Joker and Harley's relationship.

Our Take
I'm a big fan of Warner Bros. Animation's films, and I can't wait to see what this studio does with this great video game franchise. It's looking like the Suicide Squad tease at the end of Arkham Origins sets up this movie and not another prequel game – which is a tad disappointing – but it does give the film a wealth of adversaries to throw at Batman. Take a look at the trailer, and check back on August 12 for our review of the film.
