Flappy Bird Returning In August With Multiplayer

by Kyle Hilliard on May 14, 2014 at 12:29 PM

After pulling the popular Flappy Bird from iTunes and the Google Play store in February, and hinting at its return recently, creator Dong Nguyen has a window for its return, plus some extra content.

Nguyen spoke with CNBC reporter Kelley Evans about the game's return. A talent producer for CNBC, Donna Burton, tweeted the game is returning, will be less-addictive, and will also include multiplayer.

Though Burton's tweet doesn't have a release date, TechCrunch is reporting the game's reappearance will be in August.

Our Take
The tale of Dong Nguyen and Flappy Birds is a strange one. His game was immensely popular, and he pulled the game offline at the height of its popularity. His reasoning originally seemed to be related to the negativity directed at him surrounding the game, but now it seems like he may have pulled it to do some work on the game without any interference. In any case, if you missed the bizarre phenomenon the first time around, it looks like you will have another chance to download the game in a few months.
