This Live Action Street Fighter Series Might Actually Be Good

by Mike Futter on Apr 25, 2014 at 05:30 AM

Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist has a new trailer, and it might be reason for hope. Capcom’s storied fighting series has had a few (terrible) live action movies, but this upcoming look at Ken and Ryu has an interesting premise and an enjoyable proof of concept.

Kevin Tancharoen’s Mortal Kombat: Legacy proved that live action series based on fighting games can work. Machinima hopes to recapture that magic with Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist.

The series, which begins in May, is directed by Joey Ansah (who also appears as Akuma). Assassin’s Fist, a translation of “ansatsuken” (the martial art practiced by Ken, Ryu, Goken, and Akuma), tells the story of young Ken and Ryu. Capcom has given the effort its seal of approval.

In addition to the trailer for the first episode, you can check out the short film, Street Fighter: Legacy, which sets the stage.
