A new trademark filing by Microsoft indicates that the company is working on an online game entitled "Screamride."

Gamespot spotted the filing, which was registered on with the U.S. Trademark and Patent Office on April 9. The filing is for the trademark on the title "Screamride" for the purpose on "Entertainment services, namely, providing an on-line computer game."

Microsoft later issued an official response to Gamespot, which reads: "Microsoft often acquires various trademarks as part of its ongoing business strategy, but beyond that we have no comment."

Our Take:
I'm sure that Microsoft does acquire trademarks as part of its "ongoing business strategy," but "Screamride" is a pretty specific phrase to trademark if you had no intention of using it to make a game of the same name.
