Sony Japan Brings Three New Vita Games To North America

by Shin Hieftje on Apr 14, 2014 at 10:40 AM

Sony announced that three Vita games previously only set to be released in Japan will now be coming west: Soul Sacrifice Delta, Freedom Wars (pictured), and Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines. The game with the nearest release is Soul Sacrifice Delta, an action RPG akin to Monster Hunter.

Soul Sacrifice Delta is an enhanced version of Soul Sacrifice, which came out last year. This new version features a new faction to play as, overhauled more challenging A.I., and more character customization. Like any good enhanced re-release this version includes new areas, spells, and quests to the game's core campaign. Soul Sacrifice Delta hits North America on May 13th and releases in Europe a day later on May 14th.

Next is a very intriguing game, Freedom Wars. Freedom Wars is an online multiplayer combat game that blends sci-fi dystopian themes with fast paced combat. The premise is that those living in a totalitarian future are doomed to a life of imprisonment and can only shorten their sentence by going out in the world and rescuing civilians captured by monsters known as Abductors. Freedom Wars allows for up to eight players online to cooperate and battle at once, and up to four players in an ad-hoc setting. The game's combat is fast paced and purports to have a wealth of weapon customization. Freedom Wars is set be released later this year.

Lastly is the game with the least details revealed, Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines. The game is an RPG in which you take charge of an ancient Japanese clan that has been cursed with a maximum lifespan of just two years. The goal is to lead the clan and help lift the curse, and by enlisting the help of Japanese mythological gods, ensure that each new generation is more powerful than the last. Apart from a few screenshots, no other information apart from the story has been released. The game is coming to North America, but a time frame has not been announced. At least the premise certainly is interesting.

Our Take:
It's always good to see more games coming to new regions and being released from region exclusivity. The fact that Sony is confident enough in the commercial viability of these games to bring them to the west makes us hopeful for the Vita's future.
