Report: Lego The Hobbit Will Add Third Movie Content As DLC

by Mike Futter on Apr 02, 2014 at 08:27 AM

Update: Warner Bros. has responded to our request for comment on reported DLC for Lego: The Hobbit. "Definitely stay tuned for more exciting news in the near future," a representative told us via email.

Original Story:

When Lego: The Hobbit was announced as encompassing the first two films only, many wondered how WB and TT Games would close out the trilogy. Of the two realistic options–a second, complete version or DLC–one makes more sense.

Reports are coming out of London Toy Fair, by way of Brick Fanatics, that WB will be adding the third film as DLC. We’ve reached out to WB for confirmation on the matter and will update should we receive a response.

Lego: The Hobbit will be out on April 8 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Wii U, 3DS, Vita, and PC.

Our Take
If accurate, this is the right call, and WB would be wise to announce this prior to release. Our comments section from recent stories about Lego: The Hobbit indicate that people want to wait for a complete version. If they know in advance that will only be available as DLC, it will likely motivate sales when the title comes out next week.
