[Update] Uncharted 4 Director Departs Naughty Dog

by Mike Futter on Mar 27, 2014 at 10:55 AM

Update: Sony has provided a brief statement on the departure of Justin Richmond. "SCEA can confirm Justin Richmond has left Naughty Dog to pursue other opportunities," a Sony representative told us via email. "The development timeline of Uncharted will not be impacted."

Original Story:

Naughty Dog has lost another member of its creative team. Justin Richmond, game director of Uncharted 4, has left the studio.

Richmond confirms the news to IGN, saying that he has joined League of Legends developer Riot Games. Richmond’s past work includes Uncharted 2’s multiplayer, and he also directed Uncharted 3. He was employed at Naughty Dog since 2008 according to his LinkedIn profile.

This follows the departure earlier this month of writer Amy Hennig, who most recently penned the Uncharted series.

We’ve reached out to Sony and Naughty Dog for comment on Richmond’s departure and how this might impact the development of Uncharted 4.

Our Take
As a fan of Naughty Dog and the Uncharted series, I am disappointed that both of these individuals are no longer involved in the next entry in that franchise. That said, the team at Naughty Dog is extremely talented and I’m still eagerly anticipating the release of Uncharted 4.
