Project Cars Announces Morpheus Support

by Kyle Hilliard on Mar 26, 2014 at 04:30 AM

Project Cars, the highly realistic racing sim from developer Slightly Mad Studios, has announced Morpheus support for the game's upcoming release on PlayStation 4.

The announcement comes from a blog post on the developer's website, where Slightly Mad writes about how virtual reality is a perfect fit for the racing genre and delivering a true sense of speed.

Project Cars announced Oculus Rift support for the game in 2012, but makes no specific mention of the device in this post. We've reached out to the developer to confirm continued Oculus Rift support.

Update: Project Cars' creative director, Andy Tudor, confirmed continued Oculus Rift support in an e-mail writing, "Project Morpheus joins the long line of ‘next gen tech’ that we’re supporting such as 4K displays, nVidia Shield, Oculus Rift, and the latest steering wheel hardware in our quest to take gamers ‘beyond reality’."

Project Cars is planned for release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Wii U, and Steam on November of this year.

Our Take
Project Cars seems like it would be the perfect showcase for virtual reality. The player remains seated in virtual world of the game, and presumably in real life, so the the disconnect that exists in something comparable like a first-person shooter is gone. We still don't know if virtual reality is the way we will consume entertainment, but developers (and Facebook) seem pretty convinced it is.
