Support The Troops With An 8-Bit Salute

The military gaming charity Operation Supply Drop, which creates video game care packages for deployed soldiers, is looking to raise more than $1 million this year with it's annual "8-Bit Salute" fundraiser. Participants will be creating teams and then gathering donations from family and friends to support them in a game playing marathon from Saturday, May 17 through Sunday, May 18.

All the donations will be going towards creating gaming care packages for soldiers deployed in Afghanistan, around the world doing humanitarian work, or recovering in military hospitals in the states. If you want to participate but will be busy May 17, the fundraiser can be done at any time. You can also do your marathon on the makeup date of Saturday, May 24. This is the fundraiser's third year, with 2013's 8-Bit Salute raising $530,000 for the organization.

You can read more about Operation Supply Drop here, as well as register to participate.

Our Take
It's great to see gamers helping gamers, and 8-Bit Salute sounds like a perfect reason to sit down on May 17 and make a dent in your gaming backlog.
