Paradox Interactive Inks Publishing Deal For Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity

by Matt Helgeson on Mar 18, 2014 at 01:42 PM

Obsidian's Kickstarter-funded RPG will be published for PC by Paradox Interactive.

The project began as "Project Eternity", and is Obsidian's tribute to classic 1990s PC RPGs like Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale. The Kickstarter drive was wildly successful, raising $3.9 million dollars over the goal of $1.1 million.

Obsidian founder Feargus Urquhart said, "We've loved Paradox games for years and we are really impressed with how they care about what they do."

Urquhart said that the game is on track to ship this year, and will keep"every one of its promises" to backers.

Our Take:
Obsidian is on a hot streak as of late; this deal comes on the heels of the studio's well-reviewed South Park: The Stick of Truth. It's also interesting to see a Kickstarter-funded game seek out a more traditional publishing deal.
