Shovel Knight Delayed For A Few Weeks

by Isaac Federspiel on Mar 12, 2014 at 11:46 AM

Shovel Knight Developer Yacht Club revealed that it is delaying its release, according to a Kickstarter update. The 8-bit style platformer was initially supposed to release March 31, but will instead release a few weeks later.

The reason given by Yacht Club in the update was to “make sure it’s a world class experience, and can release on all platforms simultaneously.” Yacht Club also stated that it won’t announce a new release date until it is 100 percent certain the date can be met on Wii U, 3DS, and Steam.

In this final development push, Yacht Club is working on:

  • Finalizing dialogue and scripted events
  • Putting the finishing touches on level design for the later levels
  • Game balancing
  • Making sure the game runs smoothly on all platforms and testing for bugs

Our Take
Shovel Knight looks like a promising game, and it's disappointing that it's being delayed – though it's hard to complain if it results in a better game down the line. At least this looks like a very brief delay that is probably in the best interest of those looking to pick up the game.
