Report: Latest Battlefield 4 Patch Obliterates Obliteration Mode

by Mike Futter on Mar 04, 2014 at 08:57 AM

Readers and Battlefield 4 forum users are reporting that the latest wave of patches (rolled out today on Xbox 360, PS3, and PS4) have had the unintended side effect of rendering Obliteration mode unusable. This mode, which is new for Battlefield 4, involves randomly spawning bombs and defensive points. Well, it would if it still worked.

According to numerous players (on various platforms), DICE has changed the map size and layouts. This impacts the available vehicles, but also has caused problems with player ability to inflict damage on enemy team members. Some users are also reporting issues with arming and disarming bombs at the objective points.

The changes to the mode also see the bomb timer increased to 30 seconds. When reached for comment, EA told us that the publisher is “looking into it.”

Our Take
DICE didn’t alert players to changes to Obliteration mode, which makes us question if the impact was intentional. The removal of deadly vehicles and increase in bomb timer seem like they could have been done on purpose, but the issues with damage are clearly a side effect of the recent updates.
