Titanfall Beta Textures Were Running At Full Resolution

by Kyle Hilliard on Mar 02, 2014 at 05:52 AM

Respawn's co-founder, Vince Zampella, recently confirmed the visuals appearing in Titanfall's beta represent the game's full resolution textures, unlike the alpha, where textures were reduced.

The textures that appeared in the game's alpha earlier this year were reduced to 25% resolution, as stated by Rayme Vinson in January, a programmer for Respawn.

Zampella's tweet confirms that the visuals of the beta represent the visuals of the final game. Some assumed that the hampering of the textures for the alpha may have extended into the beta, but now we know this was not the case.

Our Take
Reducing the resolution of the textures for the alpha probably helped the team focus specifically on feedback for how well the game ran online. It's also among the reasons Respawn asked alpha participants to not showcase video and screenshots online. The beta for the game looked pretty stellar, so I am not surprised to learn the game was running at full resolution, but it is nice to get a confirmation from Respawn.
