After 16 Days, Twitch Has Finally Defeated Pokémon
The bizarre social experiment tasking a crowd of onlookers to play Pokémon Red as a huge team has come to an end.
After 16 days, 7 hours, 50 minutes, and 19 seconds, Pokémon has been defeated. If you haven't been following the drama of Twitch Plays Pokémon, it wasn't always entirely random input. On-lookers could vote to enter anarchy mode (which takes in all input from all viewers) or democracy mode (which allows viewers to vote on input). The latter was crucial in getting past some of the game's trickier sections.
The stream generated a huge number of Internet memes, the most popular of which was arguably the Helix Fossil. There is currently a petition on whitehouse.gov to make March 1 (the day the Internet defeated Pokémon Red) National Helix Day. You can sign the petition here.
